At some point in the early 1990's, Tony and Devin Arkin had the apparantly unoriginal idea of assembling five white men to make loud electric rock music. Although live performances now happen about as often as January, trust me, in their heydey you couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting some sort of performance by THE GOOD.

Their accomplishments included five critically acclaimed CD's, hundreds of live shows across the U.S. and maybe two other countries, tons of college radio play, and countless TV appearances—including a dubious appearance on the Jenny Jones show. Chicago's WXRT called them "masterful... I mean absolutely," and I'm pretty sure Tony has used that quote in every single piece of band communication since.

Their live show is somewhat legendary... they've rocked such venerable institutions as the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, TX, Milwaukee's Summerfest, New York's Mercury Lounge, and Chicago's Double Door. They've played with the likes of Dave Davies, The Fixx, Tears for Fears, Jonathon Richman, Great Big Sea, Michael McDermott, and Moxy Fruvous. Collective Soul is not the worst band The Good ever opened for, but they are the worst famous band.

Here is a YouTube video
that contains a pretty cool live television performance of "Shiny Ass Pants."

If you want to distinguish them from other bands masquerading as "The Good," make sure you check out these CD's:

OFT INTERRED WITH THEIR BONES
MILKY WHITE
BREAKING UP AND DOWN
WHAT ARE YOU SAVING IT FOR?
BIG MONEY MAKERS

They're all available on iTunes, but (oh my god this is annoying) you have to do a search with "The Good" and the name of the CD too.

For more than you can possibly bear to read about The Good, visit them online at thegood.org.

To listen to Good music, stick your head in the jukebox.
